Mid-year Hiring Adjustments: Is Your Strategy Still Working, or Just Vibing?

We are officially halfway through the year, which is both exciting and slightly alarming. Budgets have changed, patient volumes have done their usual rollercoaster, leadership has evolved, and that role you posted in January is still open and, honestly, starting to take it personally.

This is the perfect time to pause and ask the big question: is our hiring strategy still working, or are we just hoping really hard?

Here are a few questions worth sitting with.

Are your priorities still the priorities?

That aggressive January hiring plan was gorgeous. Very ambitious. Very "new year, new org." But it is July now. Take a fresh look at which roles will actually move the needle, and give yourself permission to let the rest breathe.

Is your interview process helping or quietly sabotaging you?

Top candidates today are not exactly short on options. If your process has more rounds than a heavyweight fight and your follow up timeline is measured in geologic eras, you may be losing great people before you ever get to the fun part. Nobody has ever accepted an offer they forgot they interviewed for.

Have compensation expectations shifted?

The market keeps evolving whether we RSVP to it or not. Benchmark your packages, especially for leadership, nursing, laboratory, and those specialty roles that make you sigh just thinking about them. If your comp still reflects last year's reality, candidates will notice before you do.

Are you building a pipeline or fully improvising?

The strongest hiring strategies do not begin the moment someone hands in a resignation letter and your stomach drops. Building relationships with strong talent before you need them means you get to move with a plan instead of a prayer.

Are your hiring partners actually adding value?

A good recruiting partner does more than forward you resumes and vanish. They should know your culture, bring real market insight, help sharpen the role, and introduce you to people you would never have found on your own. If your current setup is basically a very polite forwarding service, we should talk.

The Bottom Line

The second half of the year is a genuine gift: a chance to recalibrate before year end planning shows up and starts making demands. Small adjustments now lead to better hires, happier teams, and a Q4 that does not feel like a group project due at midnight.

At Everly Talent, we partner with healthcare organizations to provide real market intelligence, connect you with exceptional professionals, and build hiring strategies that hold up all year long. And yes, we are also just nice to work with.

If you are eyeing your hiring plans for the rest of the year, we would love to be a resource. Or at the very least, a good conversation.
